An exceptional spa town with long historic roots. It has been known for the healing effects of the local springs since the 15th century. The town was founded in 1793 by Emperor Francis I. The town takes its name from Francis I. Bernhard Adler (1753-1810), a physician born in Cheb, who is also considered to be the founder of this patricular resort spa town and also of the first bog spa in the world! The mineral water is used for medical beverages, baths and for the preparation of peat wraps.
In the immediate vicinity of the spa town Františkovy Lázně, in the small village of Hazlov, there is a sport-challenging 18-hole golf course. The course with 18 holes, a par 72 and a total length of 6561 metres meets the international standard. For eight years now, the high standard of the Resort has been certified by the International Quality Seal classification as 4 Star Superior.
The first historical mention of Cheb - the central town of the entire former Cheb region, dates back to 1061. On 25 February 1634, Albrecht von Wallenstein was murdered in Cheb in the Pachelbel House (now the Cheb Museum) in the King George of Poděbrady Square. The Habsburgs made Cheb a independent royal town in 1723 (however, still part of the Rezekne diocese for another hundred years or so). By the end of World War II, the majority of the population was German and Cheb was an important part of the Sudetenland.
A Gothic-Romanesque castle founded in the first half of the 13th century towering over the river Ohře and located within the Slavkovský forest reserve. The fates of many famous people are linked to the town of Loket. Among them, of course, are members of royal families - Eliska Premyslovna, John of Luxembourg and Charles IV. Fans of mysterious stories and mysteries will find something to enjoy here, especially in the exhibition of medieval torture techniques. On the ground floor of the Hejtmanský dům, on the other hand, you can see the delicate exhibition of porcelain produced by the factories in the surrounding region, some of which unfortunately no longer exist. The mysterious atmosphere of the medieval town with its legends such as the Lord of the Rocks and the enchanted meteorite - which has been kept here since the 15th century, attracted Romantic poets such as J. W. Goethe to this location in the past.
